“Unmask the truth.”
In his second year as Gotham City’s masked crime fighter, Batman is drawn into a murder investigation that exposes corruption reaching into the city’s power structure and his own family history. As the killings mount, he follows a trail left by the Riddler and pieces together clues that point toward a wider conspiracy. The case pushes him to confront what his mission has become and how closely it is tied to the city he patrols.
Matt Reeves directs this 2022 film, shaping it as a grim detective story with superhero elements. Robert Pattinson plays Batman, moving through the investigation as a solitary figure who reads the city through evidence and fear. The cast also includes Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell, each tied to the web of suspects, allies and officials around the case. Their roles help turn the story into a chain of confrontations rather than a simple chase.
Made in Denmark, Sweden and the United States, the film uses Gotham as a shadowed urban landscape where power, secrecy and violence overlap. Its mood is tense and brooding, with the investigation unfolding through dark streets, hidden motives and a sense that every clue carries a cost. The result is a crime story that leans into mystery and menace while keeping Batman at its center.
