“Prepare for an unforgettable trip.”
Set on the Italian Riviera, Luca follows two boys whose summer of freedom is shadowed by a secret they cannot keep hidden for long. Luca and his best friend Alberto spend their days chasing adventure, testing the limits of their new world above the water. As the season unfolds, the bond between them is strained by the danger of being discovered. The film turns a simple holiday into a story about trust, belonging and the fear that comes with difference.
Enrico Casarosa directed this 2021 film, shaping it as a warm coming-of-age adventure with fantasy touches. Jacob Tremblay voices Luca, the curious boy at the center of the story, while Jack Dylan Grazer voices Alberto, his daring friend and constant companion. Emma Berman also voices Giulia, who becomes part of their summer and the world they are trying to understand. The cast gives the film its energy as the boys move between wonder, secrecy and the pull of friendship.
The setting gives the film its bright, sunlit mood, with the Italian coast framing every moment of discovery. Beneath the playful surface, it carries themes of identity, acceptance and the risk of revealing who you really are. Its tone stays light and affectionate even as the characters face the pressure of being different.
