Green Border follows people caught in the swampy forests along the boundary between Belarus and Poland, where the promise of safe passage turns into a struggle for survival. Refugees from the Middle East and Africa become trapped in a crisis that is larger than any one of them, while those around them are forced into choices that carry heavy moral weight. The film moves between danger, uncertainty and the pressure of a border that seems to close in on everyone it touches.

Agnieszka Holland directs this 2023 film, shaping the story around Julia, a newly committed activist who leaves her comfortable life behind, and Jan, a young border guard pulled into the same conflict. The cast also includes a Syrian family whose journey becomes part of the film's intersecting threads. Their roles place the human cost of the border at the center of the drama, while the performances give the story its immediate emotional force.

Set in a landscape of forest, mud and surveillance, the film treats the border as both a physical place and a moral test. Its tone is tense and bleak, with action and thriller elements grounded in a stark drama about displacement and conscience. The setting gives the story a harsh, unstable quality that keeps pressure on every scene.
