“Answer the call.”
Ghostbusters follows four women who join forces after a ghost invasion spreads through Manhattan. Erin Gilbert and Abby Yates reunite their interest in the paranormal, while engineer Jillian Holtzmann and subway worker Patty Tolan bring practical skills to the effort. As the city fills with otherworldly disturbances, they build a team around investigation, invention and nerve.
Paul Feig directs the film, which stars Kristen Wiig as Erin Gilbert, Melissa McCarthy as Abby Yates, Kate McKinnon as Jillian Holtzmann and Leslie Jones as Patty Tolan. Their characters each bring a different strength to the group, from research and theory to technical improvisation and streetwise confidence. The ensemble carries the story through escalating encounters as the women try to contain the threat.
Made in Germany and the United States, Ghostbusters is a 2016 fantasy comedy with action and drama elements. Its Manhattan setting gives the film a busy urban backdrop, and the constant movement through streets and subway spaces keeps the tone brisk. It mixes playful supernatural chaos with teamwork and a slightly offbeat, energetic mood.
