“His whole life was a million-to-one shot.”
Rocky follows a small-time Philadelphia boxer whose routine life changes when he is given a chance to step into the ring with the world heavyweight champion. The film tracks his preparation, the pressure around the bout and the hope that comes with a rare opening. What begins as an unlikely opportunity becomes a test of endurance, nerve and self-belief.

Written and directed by John G. Avildsen, the film stars Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa, the fighter at the center of the story. Talia Shire appears as Adrian, whose presence gives his struggle a more personal stake. Burt Young and Carl Weathers also feature, with Weathers playing the champion Rocky must face. Their roles keep the focus on the people around the boxer as much as on the fight itself.

Made in the United States, Rocky is set in Philadelphia and draws much of its energy from working-class streets, gyms and arenas. Its tone is determined and hopeful, with moments of humor balanced against the strain of competition. The film plays as a sports drama about persistence, pride and the chance to prove oneself.
