"If I could only have one food to eat for the rest of my life?" "That's easy. Pez. Cherry flavor Pez. No question about it."
Stand by Me follows four boys who set out from their small Oregon town in search of a dead classmate. What begins as a dare becomes a long walk along tracks and through rough country, with each stop exposing how different their lives already are. Gordie, Chris, Teddy and Vern carry their own fears and bravado, and the trip slowly turns into a test of loyalty and nerve. By the time they head back, the journey has changed the way they see one another and themselves.

The film was directed by Rob Reiner and released in 1986. Wil Wheaton plays Gordie, the quiet boy whose perspective gives the story its emotional center, while River Phoenix brings warmth and restraint to Chris, the friend trying to look tougher than he feels. Corey Feldman appears as Teddy, whose volatility keeps the group off balance, and Jerry O'Connell plays Vern, the most anxious of the four. Their performances shape the film’s balance of humor, tension and memory.

Set in 1950s Oregon, the story moves through woods, tracks and open stretches of road that make the boys’ world feel both free and exposed. It is a coming-of-age drama with crime and adventure elements, but its real focus is on friendship, grief and the awkward shift from childhood certainty to adult awareness. The tone is nostalgic and sentimental without losing the rough edges of bullying, fear and pride.
