A deep-sea rescue mission turns dangerous when a research team reaches the Mariana Trench and disturbs a creature long believed to be extinct. Jonas Taylor, a submersible pilot with a troubled past, is drawn back into the depths as the threat grows around an underwater facility. What begins as an expedition becomes a fight to survive a massive predator that has emerged from the dark ocean. The film keeps its focus on confinement, pressure and the terror of being cut off below the surface.

Jon Turteltaub directs this creature-driven adventure, which mixes horror, action and comedy around the crew's struggle to contain the disaster. Jason Statham plays Jonas Taylor, the pilot forced to face the abyss again, while Li Bingbing appears as Suyin, a key figure in the underwater operation. Rainn Wilson is part of the team behind the mission, and the ensemble helps shape the film's mix of danger and uneasy humor. Their characters are tied to the scientific effort that brings the threat into view.

Made in the United States and China, the film uses the ocean floor as a place of isolation, scale and constant threat. Its tone moves between suspense and spectacle, with the deep sea presented as both a workplace and a trap. The setting gives the story a cold, pressurized edge, while the creature element keeps every encounter tense and unpredictable.
