“Back for War.”
The Expendables 2 sends Barney Ross and his team on what begins as a routine assignment and quickly turns into a violent hunt for revenge. After one of their own is killed, the group pushes deeper into hostile territory and finds that the job is tied to a far more dangerous enemy than expected. The mission becomes a test of loyalty as the crew moves from paid work to personal payback.
Simon West directs the film, keeping the focus on the team's blunt camaraderie and hard-edged teamwork. Sylvester Stallone leads as Barney Ross, with Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture and Terry Crews among the fighters who back him up in the field. Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger also appear, adding to the film's lineup of seasoned tough guys.
Made in the United States with additional production in Bulgaria, Germany and China, the film leans into a rough, fast-moving style. Its tone mixes military action with dry banter and a sense of old-school muscle. At 103 minutes, it stays focused on retaliation, loyalty and the cost of working as mercenaries.
