There's more than one way to lose your life to a killer.
Zodiac follows the long shadow cast by a serial killer who taunts San Francisco with letters, codes and threats, drawing journalists and investigators into a case that refuses to settle. As the years pass, the search for answers becomes more consuming, and the people pulled into it find their lives shaped by uncertainty as much as by fear. The film builds its tension through persistence, frustration and the sense that every clue may only lead to another dead end.

David Fincher directs this crime thriller, and the film centers on the work of the San Francisco Chronicle as its staff tries to make sense of the killings and the messages that arrive with them. Jake Gyllenhaal appears as a cartoonist whose fascination with the case pushes him deeper into the mystery, while Robert Downey Jr. and Mark Ruffalo play men drawn into the investigation from different angles. Their roles give the story its human focus, balancing professional duty, obsession and the strain of living with an unresolved threat.

Made in the United States and running 157 minutes, the film is set against California in the late 1960s and 1970s, where newspapers, police work and public anxiety overlap. Its tone is controlled and foreboding, with the mystery unfolding less as a puzzle to be solved than as a burden that keeps spreading. The result is a procedural drama about obsession, memory and the cost of chasing certainty.
