When you run into yourself you run into feelings you never thought you had.
Personal Best follows Chris Cahill, a young sprinter struggling to find her best form until she crosses paths with track star Tory Skinner. Tory and her coach help Chris sharpen her training, and the connection between the two women deepens as their friendship turns romantic. As Chris improves, the bond between them is tested by the fact that they are now competing for the same Olympic team.

Released in 1982, the film runs 124 minutes and was made in Japan and the United States. It centers on the physical and emotional demands placed on Chris as she tries to advance in elite athletics, while Tory becomes both a guide and a rival. The cast brings that tension to life through the two runners whose relationship shifts with every race and practice session.

Set in the world of competitive track, the film balances athletic ambition with intimacy and rivalry. Its tone is grounded and emotionally charged, using sport as the backdrop for a story about desire, discipline and the cost of progress. The result is a drama shaped by pressure, closeness and the uncertainty that comes when personal and professional goals collide.
