The Endurance is a documentary about Sir Ernest Shackleton’s Antarctic expedition and the ordeal of the crew aboard the vessel The Endurance. Trapped in ice floes and then stranded in the frozen ocean, the men face exposure, hunger and the long wait for help. Shackleton takes a small party in search of rescue, leaving the rest behind in conditions that grow harsher by the day. The film follows that struggle toward safety and the effort to return for the men still marooned.

Made in 2000, the film draws on historical material to recount the expedition with a strong sense of physical hardship and persistence. It is a United States, German, British and Swedish production running 97 minutes. The story is centered on Shackleton and his crew, whose choices and endurance shape every stage of the journey. Their experience gives the film its human focus as well as its account of survival.

Set in Antarctica, it presents a world of ice, isolation and unstable weather, where distance and cold become constant obstacles. The tone is sober and determined, with the landscape itself pressing on every decision. It is a story of endurance, rescue and the fragile hope of bringing everyone home.
