“She's a lawyer who broke two laws of her profession... Never get involved with a juror and don't look for clues in dangerous places.”
Suspect follows a public defender who takes on a murder case that seems open and shut, then finds herself drawn into a search for the truth beyond the courtroom. As she works for her client, she begins to doubt the official version of events and to follow leads that put her in danger. A juror with his own doubts joins her, and the case turns into a private investigation as well as a legal fight.
Released in 1987, the film runs 121 minutes and was made in the United States. It is carried by a cast that includes Cher as Kathleen Riley, a lawyer who pushes past the limits of her role, and Dennis Quaid as Eddie Sanger, the juror who becomes her ally. Liam Neeson appears as Carl Anderson, the accused man whose silence makes the case harder to read. The film blends courtroom tension with action and suspense while keeping the focus on the people pulled into the investigation.
The story moves between legal procedure and the shadowy spaces where evidence is hard to trust. Its tone is tense and urgent, with the courtroom giving way to a wider sense of risk and pursuit. Questions of justice, duty and personal involvement shape the film’s atmosphere throughout.
