Life is the symptom. Death is the cure.
After a terrible car crash, a woman wakes to find herself in the care of an enigmatic mortician who is preparing her for burial. Trapped between shock and uncertainty, she tries to understand what is happening to her and why she has been placed in this strange, quiet room. The film builds its tension from that unsettling situation, keeping the boundary between life and death at the center of the story.

After.Life was released in 2009 as a British and American production. It runs 103 minutes and stars Christina Ricci as the woman caught in the mortician’s hands, with Liam Neeson as the man who controls the funeral preparations. Justin Long also appears in a key role, adding another point of contact to the film’s tense emotional triangle. The cast carries the story through a series of uneasy exchanges that keep the mystery alive.

Set largely around a funeral home, the film turns a private space into a place of dread and doubt. Its mood is spare and claustrophobic, with horror and mystery elements shaping the drama. Questions of grief, identity and what counts as life give it a bleak, reflective tone.
